lambokart scratch

                     play lambokart
  1. What difficulties did you have with programming this game? How did you fix them? Be specific. i had trouble with the countdown and the finished screen as they weren't showing up when needed so read the code and add the wait how many second option and fixed the problem all together.
  2. what changes to the tutorial did you add, why and how, well I added a second player and a count down because most racing games i play have multiplayer and countdown and help make feel the race more realistic

Pac-kodu

 game map
 Character code

  1. How close is your game to the original? What is different? What is the same? the game has the same map of the original and the same colours, but the game is 3d not 2d ,   theres only two ghost instead of one.
  2. What extra or creative details did you change or add to your version of the game? Why did you create these changes? I Changed the way you won the game, you only need 100 points and each pellet is worth 4 points, the power up will cause kodu to change color and scare the other ghost.
  3. What difficulties did you have? How did you fix this? a problem i had was the path of the ghosts i tried recreate the path they in the original, had to watch a bunch of kodu tutorials
  4. What feedback did your beta testers have for you and how did you implement their suggestions? they said fix kodus movement  and make the map smaller, so i added a run button for kodu to control his speed easier, and for the map size? it was the last day and i didn't want to redo that
  5. What would you improve with your game? What would be the next steps with your game?
id say make the map smaller

Video games: the movie

What are some of the reasons video games were successful? What makes a game
popular?
why I think video games so successful it gave people an escape from everyday life and gave them a world they fitted right in. and depending on the game it could different fro everyone an examples is a games were the players choice causes a different outcome to the story or characters. what makes a game popular i think it is the story and character development  . a good story/character development  will make players attached to characters and story and treat them real people instead just a person on a screen .

What are some of the reasons why the video game industry crashed in the 1980s?
some of the reasons I think is with the Atari the after awhile people felt they were buying the same game over and over again, and the experience became stale. retailers didn't  want to take anymore video consoles in to stock, the video game industry realised that the consumers aren't just robots there actual people, most people wanted a new experience. not, and at this point the industry wasn't progressing.

Do you think video games are a form of art? Why or why not?
video games ARE a form of art! why? because some games are fully immersive in a 3D environment. for example games like legend of Zelda of full of colour and expression, and art is a display that affects people. and video games are just a display on a screen and affects everyone differently.

What is the next evolution in video games? What are the challenges that need to be solved in the next generation of games?
Video games are becoming more interactive with motion controls and Virtual reality. so you could experience for example going to war, exploring a dungeon, or just doing a job. and think the challenges for the next generation of gaming will be how much will home consoles still be relevant because computers are taking over the video game scene because of software like steam. most of this these game could be played on a strong computer

kodu intro

  Game Map

kodu coding:

rover coding:

tree coding

creating this game was very frustrating because this version of Kodu is a not the current version, for example the scoring code was difficult, there were shortcuts in the current version but so everything had to done manually. I had to take my time when reading the options to figure this out on my own, and got help tofrom the teachers and fellow class mates to figure out the coding,
the main issue was the scoring, when kodu grabbed one apple it the game would just end. it took a while to figure that one out, but found option to count the score ONLY once, and fixed the problem.

feedback on the game
the level design  is to plain, make more more terrains,  that was all and i agree with the feedback because i spent most of my time figuring the coding part that i had no time to make the level design creative

game description:
kodu must collect apples for ingredients for his apple pie, but a rover is guarding these apples

and there is a limited amount of apples, kodu just needs 5 apples for his recipe.
will kodu have apple pie for dinner or will the rover catch him before he does
rules
- use arrow keys to move kodu
-press p for a speed boost ( you lose 1 point for using the speed boost)
-if kodu gets touched by rover game is over
-kodu must collect 5 apples to win the game

Game design header process
this was the background of my header
this picture is from "animal crossing wild world"
no modification was added it in this photo

after that i wanted to add pictures from games that i really enjoyed

This was my 1st edit in Photoshop.. it took awhile but i did it in the end i had to 1st make the background transparent so a white background wouldn't be around  the character it would just be the character. using the magic wand tool i got rid of the white background by just clicking on it
2nd i had to make the image smaller, (the image was HUGE!!!) so put a box and pressed crontrol+ T to edit the size and held the shift button to keep the ratio the same and pressed control+C to copy it and control+ V to paste it in to the background, i did the same process with the other pictures

but with the last picture i had to modify it , i wanted to change the colour so i clicked styles i saw the different style for the yoshi egg and found one i liked:

and pasted it into the background and added a title, and finished

first pixel art project: omy gawd kill it
this beautiful piece of art was inspired by theses two pictures;

 THE PROCESS:
first I re-created the picture on the left
had to zoomed in on a section on the paper so I would be working with just 1 pixel at a time, and with the pencil tool I re-created the chubby mega man, after that I had made the things the mega man shoots out of his hand.. I made 3 shots because he can only shoot 3 at a time in his games using the pencil tool.  once i had the shots on the on the screen I began making the mega man on the left.. I had to mirror him because he wasn't facing the right direction. I also changed his facial expression to more to shocked face, and brought out Megan mans expression more with the dots above his head. last thing I had to add context so the photo would make more sense (Ahh!! Kill it with FIRE!!!) and TA DA its finish and ready to be posted but I had to make it bigger size, after i made it bigger it was finished...

Game design skills
many skills are needed to design games but the 3 skills I have chosen are:

Animation:
when I play I always love games with animation like the legend of Zelda, or animal crossing,  because there are very memorable characters due to the animations, for example. in animal crossing there are villagers that move to your town and each villager has there own unique animations and text and it gives characters life and make the experience better. as a kid animation is always something i wanted to do because i used to draw comics and make my own characters and stories and i wanted to bring does characters to life, and with animation I can. and me knowing a lot about how to make character memorable by animation., due to my experience with those types of games

Visual arts:
this skill is also going to help me in Animation so i can use those old comics books I wrote  help make its look even better. This skill will allow me to help promote box art or level designs also adding to my experience with animation and style.. my experience with visual arts is with my uncle as he is a graphic designer, hes makes ads for business company, and some the poster are so cool.. and I've been always good with computer

Public speaking:
well if I can design and animate, I have to be able to present my ideas so... public speaking would be a good skill to have. especially if i want to sell my game,  should be able to tell people what my games are about who is the target audience.. I don't want people think I'm up to something. I have a lot of the experience in public speaking..
